What to Wear for Electric Daisy Carnival
So for those of you who may not already know (c’mon now), the Electric Daisy Carnival is coming up in about 3 months during the weekend of June 8th to 10th. And obviously, when I think about raves, the biggest question for me is: What costume should I wear for this event in a desert which consists of 200,000+ attendees? Fortunately for someone like me who likes to obsess over outfits for every single type of occasion, I have just enough time to do some research and put something decent together.
Please keep in mind that in an event like this, it is definitely a great way for you to show off your individuality and no matter what you may be wearing (or not wearing), you will be a single colorful dot in a crowd full of hot- sweaty- rainbow colored- drugged out- etc, etc individuals. Some opt for the cute candy raver look while adorning WAY too many bracelets that would cause you to think: hmm, they are going to suffer from some terrible tan lines, some dress up in furry.. everything *rawrr ;)*, while others keep it more casual.
With that in mind, let’s start from the top down:
In terms of style, big plastics, cat eye, anything goes. This is a MUST HAVE for all girls because not only will this accessory complete your outfit and protect your precious eyes from UV rays, bright lights from the stage and all that other nasty stuff, it also hides the fact that your eye makeup is melting from countless hours of dancing in a hot and sweaty crowd in the desert! Trust me on this, you will NOT regret running to Sunglass Hut for that last minute purchase on the day of the event.
2. Daisies on EVERYTHING:
I love daisies. They’re awesome and they represent innocence and loads of other cute stuff. And one thing I love about them: they go well on anything and everything. You can put them in your hair, on your bra, bracelets, earrings, you name it. Plus, the event is named Electric DAISY carnival, so use that theme to your advantage if you are looking for a last minute outfit idea.
3. Neon pieces:
If you want yourself to stand out as much as possible in the evening, look into your closet for some bright, neon colored basics. Or underwear works too, no one’s going to judge. This doesn’t mean that you can look as if the Teletubbies vomited on you (unless that’s the look you’re aiming for, then by all means go for it), but you can pair a bright colored tank top with neutral colored shorts. Or throw in a tutu. Do whatever makes you feel comfortable as long as you’re not sporting a thick ski jacket and snowpants (Vegas weather, hello!). In addition, feel free to wear as many colorful bead/glow bracelets as you would like.
4. Comfortable shoes:
Please note that for a 3 day event such as this, comfy shoes are MANDATORY. This actually has a priority above sunglasses. Do you think that if you give a number to a cute guy during the event, that he will call you the next day saying “Oh btw, I loved your Prada heels. It just totally made your outfit. If it weren’t for those uncomfortable, overpriced yet nice shoes, I wouldn’t have given you a call.” If so, then you either caught yourself a guy with a foot fetish, or something else.
Some recommendations include: flats, sneakers, flat military style boots, flat furry boots, FLAT.. you get the idea. A personal favorite are furry boot covers. That way you can wear your run down, 8 year old sneakers under them and no one will know ;).
Or a small purse. Wristlets work too. Basically anything that will keep your hands free as you dance the night(s) away!
…And there you have it. If I am missing anything, please leave a comment and I look forward to seeing all of you there!
