The new cool way to meet new people

If you haven’t tried a dating or chat site yet, you are missing out.

By 2013, over 40 million Americans have gone online to look for somebody. This means, of the 96 million America Singles, a bit over 40% of single Americans have gone online. Only 10% of users have stop using dating services after 3 months. In October 2011, the major dating sites reported over 593M combined visits.

Online dating brings in just over a $1b in 2012, with $550M of it coming from mobile apps. Online dating is projected to be worth $1.3b by 2013.

With online dating becoming increasingly popular, so are the results.

Multiple surveys suggest that 17-21% of marriages started with online dating. Also 1-in-5 relationships start online. The average time of courtship before marriage is about 18.5 months when meeting online; opposed to 42 months when meeting offline.

However, online dating is not without the “hot action”. Surveys find 1-in-3 women have sex on the first encounter.

There is still much more room to grow, as modern trends start to emerge.

Singles are staying put for longer, while 40% of others are divorcing earlier. Even the younger generations (18-26 years) are opening up to meet others online. However, the average age varies greatly on different the sites. Many are also turning to dating sites for new reasons, such as friends and activity partners. After all, in the eyes of many, that’s how a perfect relationship starts any ways.

Meeting new people online can be just as rewarding as meeting people offline. I am a shy introverted person and I am NOT scared to admit that I use online dating sites and chat sites to meet new people. Over the years, I’ve made some amazing friendships with people whom I’ve met online. Believe it or not, I promise you that there are and will be more like-minded people that you can relate with who also just want to meet new people and are exploring new fun ways of doing so.

Notice above, I didn’t even mention dating. Dating sites and chat sites are not just about dating. My personal observations, people like me are just looking for new fun alternatives to meet new people. Internet dating does not have to be so serious. It honestly is only as serious as you make it.

Joining these dating and chat sites does not have to mean “love, marriage and a baby carriage”. And on the flip side not everyone is looking for a quick booty call. It does not have to be about dating at all! The trend is people are making new friends and creating great memories. Take chance on fate, and have fun!
